About Me

I have been involved in dairy production all of my life. I appreciate the opportunity to have lived on a progressive family dairy farm in southern Illinois and witnessed modernization first hand. I was privileged to have studied dairy science at leading land grant universities, with outstanding faculties, and to have been able to share this knowledge with producers in my career as a dairy specialist. Many changes, such as mechanical milking, bulk cooling and storage of milk, group housing, improved nutrition and feeding systems along with an understanding of reproduction and genetics have had significant impacts on dairy innovation and improved labor efficiency. Since retirement I have done international volunteer work in Russia, Belarus, Lebanon and Jordan. My experiences dealing with technology transfer in the U.S. over 50 years is sought out by others who desire to modernize dairy infrastructure. The Russian dairy industry wants to leap from where we were 50 years ago to where we are today. It is a tall order but great strides are being made.
